They were called "Choose Your Own Adventure" by Steve Jackson and someone Livingstone. They were both awful and awesome at the same time. Probably significantly less good today than they were then. Still, the idea behind them is pretty sound I think. It could be adapted for more literary purposes. I actually have a half-finished novel based loosely on the idea. Maybe one day I'll finish the bugger...

I really enjoyed Ephemera, it had me confused and enthralled at the same time, which doesn't often happen!

I can't admit to having followed some parts of the essay, mainly because I'm not very well read. But the Hypertext section reminded me of those fantasy books I used to read when I was a child where you read a section and then decide what the character does next by skipping to the relevant page. Can't remember what they were called though (or if they were any good)...

I'm happy to see the Transformers love. There's actually a bunch of movie's which I think follow a similar path more successfully - the dominance of action over plot. Luc Besson has produced a lot of them, which is odd considering his work on La Femme Nikita and The Specialist are so character driven. But Transporter 2 and District B13 spring to mind, and are very entertaining. There's also Ultraviolet, but I won't recommend it as it sucks. Instead watch the director's other movie, Equilibrium, which doesn't fit with what we're talking about but rocks anyway. Unfairly written off as a Matrix clone just because it has a couple of rock-awesome combat scenes.

Attempt 1 is my favorite. I think I might like to use Attempt 3 as an Epigraph in my NIP.

Perfect argument for why Transformers 2 most definitely did NOT suck. I ate a whole box of twenty-dollar-popcorn -- I couldn't stop shoveling the shit in my mouth, but I don't think I tasted a single kernel. I laughed pretty much constantly, and every moment I wasn't laughing I was squeeing like a little kid (just like the kid back in the 80's who lived and breathed Transformers). I shouted out loud. I danced in my seat. I was totally absorbed by the near-constant robot battle pr0n.

And when I left the theater, the only thing I could remember about the whole movie was -- you guessed it -- giant wrecking ball testicles. I giggled. And wanted to watch it again.

The only thing I will say -- and this ought to be amusing coming from a trashmouth like me -- but there was entirely too much cursing.

I know, I know. In my defense, that's probably the first and last time I will ever say those words, but I thought it was pushed just a hair too far. I think it was the robots cursing that did it for me. Had it been Shia the Beef and fellow screen-candy, probably wouldn't have bothered me . . .

This review is made out of awesome. Overall I enjoyed the movie to. I went to see it for entertainments sake and I was entertained. I left the theater with no major complaints.
1. Megan Fox is still 100% CGI.
2. Cameron is still my favorite lady robot.
3. Optimus Prime is still Optimus Prime.

In retrospect though I do agree with this reviewer: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/smg-transformers-10-questions.html with the idea of "Robot heaven!" WTF! Robot heaven?
